On February 11, 2024, Victorian brothers Stefan and Lachlan Lamble embarked on an extraordinary 100-day challenge, aiming to venture from Perth to Melbourne entirely on foot to help raise awareness and funds for cancer research. Known as ‘the Lambros’, the duo not only completed this monumental mission but did so in an astonishing 85 days, covering 3,400 kilometres in their pursuit for cancer research.
The decision to undertake this challenging adventure came after they witnessed their beloved grandmother undergo treatment for thyroid cancer, and the heartbreaking loss of another grandmother to cancer alongside hearing countless stories from their community about their own experiences with the devastating disease. This profound impact inspired them to find a way they could raise awareness for cancer research.
As they set off, the brothers reflected on the impact of cancer. “These experiences have led us to a profound realisation that cancer, in one way or another, touches the lives of everyone. So, we’ve decided to take a stand and do something about it,” they stated.
During their challenge, the Lambros faced numerous obstacles - braving floods, heatwaves, storms, and sustaining multiple injuries. Their determination remained unwavering, and they crossed the finish line on May 5 raising over $220,000 and becoming the first brothers to run the entire length of the country. “Even if we can save one life, it would all be worth it,” they expressed, underscoring their commitment to making a difference.
Following their initial success, the Lambros laced up their runners once again to complete a marathon on a pier and on September 19, they returned to the Australian outback for another challenge. Armed with only a backpack and limited supplies, the brothers committed to running a marathon each day for a week, covering over 300 kilometres across Australia’s most dangerous desert, until they reached the ANZAC Hill Memorial in Alice Springs - contributing funds to their ultimate fundraising goal of $1 million.
Through their incredible feats, Stefan and Lachlan Lamble not only honour the memory of their loved ones but also highlight the importance of cancer research, raising record-breaking amount of funds in the process. Their story is a powerful testament to resilience and determination, having raised over $245,000 at the end of 2025 for a purpose beyond themselves - lifesaving cancer research.
“These experiences have led us to a profound realisation that cancer, in one way or another, touches the lives of everyone. So, we’ve decided to take a stand and do something about it,” they stated.
